Caring for your tattoo

Leave bandage on for 24hrs. - 5 days (as advised by your tattooer). Do not lift bandage/tape to peek as this will let bacteria inside. Also, the bandage/tape will usually lose tack once peeled.

Wash tattoo thoroughly with mild soap and water. Wash hands then rinse, then re-lather with soap and gently wash the tattoo removing any plasma that has accumulated on your fresh tattoo. Don't be alarmed, it may look messy at first.

This is a normal part of their healing process. Using wet paper towels, wipe off the soap and plasma firmly. Let the tattoo dry and look at it under a good light source. If it is shiny, repeat the above once more.

Proper cleaning is essential for a fast and proper heal.

After the initial cleaning, wait 48 hours before applying a mild, fragrance-free moisturizer such as Regular Lubriderm if the tattoo feels tight or itchy.

Do not get tattoo excessively wet. This means no swimming, no baths, or hot tubs until healed.

Getting a tattoo excessively wet increases healing time by increasing the risk of thick scabbing and complicating the healing process. Showering is fine but try and use minimal water on the tattoo and pat it dry immediately afterwards.

Do not pick or scratch at the tattoo. It may get flaky during the initial healing process; this is normal. It is also normal if the tattoo feels itchy. Slapping the tattoo or applying a light coat of moisturizer can relieve the itch. Let any flakes fall off on their own. Any help from you could possibly lift out some of the pigment.

Make it a point to keep your tattoo out of the sun. You cannot put sunblock on a fresh tattoo, wait about 3 weeks before doing so.

Do not wear tight fitting clothing over a healing tattoo. Rubbing and chafing will irritate it causing excess scabbing and slow the healing process.

With any tattoo, there is always the possibility of infection. If you see any signs of infection, please contact your tattooer as well as your doctor.
